Bio-Hunter
Home/Change Series
“Bio-Hunter” is an hour long, one shot OVA from 1995; adapted from a manga by Fujihiko Hosono (“Yami no Shihokan: Judge”) with a script from Yoshiaka Kawajiri (“Ninja Scroll”, “Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust”), and featuring Character Designs by Hiroshi Hamasaki (“Cyber City Oedo”, “Darkside Blues”, “Midnight Eye: Goku”).
All the stories you’ve heard of monsters and demons are true. There exists in our world: the “Demon Virus”, a retrovirus that feeds on the hatred, malice, and greed found within the human soul. Nurtured by our own corruption, it replicates and causes massive physical mutations within its infected hosts, changing men into monsters. Two nerdy, college Molecular Biology professors, Bio-Hunters Koshigaya and Komada, fight against the spread of the virus with their own lab-created retrovirus; and, in Komada’s case, with his own transforming Demon infected body… which he struggles to control through will-power alone.
Six months ago, Chief Secretary of the Liberal Republican Party and Candidate for Prime Minister, Tabe Seijuro was infected. Fed by his lusts and abuses of power, Seijuro’s inner demon has taken him over, and transformed him into an inhuman monstrosity that physically feeds on the live livers and intestines of the young women he attacks and guts. With police and yakuza ties, Tabe is above suspicion in the homicides; untouchable and protected, as the number of his murder victims grows. Koshigaya and Komada become involved in the case when Komada protects Sayaka, the granddaughter of Tabe’s fortune teller, Murakami Bokudoh, from yakuza thugs. The politician seeks to eliminate the one man who knows of his demonic transformation, but targets Bokudoh’s Granddaughter, since Bokudoh has gone into hiding. Can Komada protect Sayaka, and take down the evil, all-powerful Tabe?
“Hell of a thing … that I can’t win because I’m still half human.”
Monsters, gore, violence, sex, and awkward love -- another great 1980s-90s Madhouse Studio anime noir.
