Robot Carnival-Starlight Angel
Home/Change Series
"Robot Carnival" is a collection of shorts, first released in 1987. The anthology consists of seven individual shorts and one opening and ending animation. None of the shorts had anything to do with any of the other shorts. Its tagline, “Nine animators, one vision”, should be: “Nine animators, eight visions.”
Directed by Hiroyuki Kitazume (Original Creator of “Legaciam”, and Character Designer on “Bastard!!”, “Digital Devil”, “Gaiarth”, and “Gundam: Char’s Counter Attack”), “Starlight Angel” follows two unnamed teenage girls on a fun outing at a robotic themed amusement park. However, the day turns sour when the two find out they’re dating the same guy, sending one into tears. Aimlessly fleeing into a large, bustling crowd of park goers, our heroine winds up literally as a rider on an emotional rollercoaster, followed by a concerned park employee. The nice guy, working stiff gets to play the role of heroic knight in her fantasy, and saves the girl from her lingering feelings of sadness and rage -- which manifest themselves as a wicked-cool, giant, fire-breathing robot!
