Robot Carnival-Nightmare
Home/Change Series
"Robot Carnival" is a collection of shorts, first released in 1987. The anthology consists of seven individual shorts and one opening and ending animation. None of the shorts had anything to do with any of the other shorts. Its tagline, which is: “Nine animators, one vision”, should really be: “Nine animators, eight visions.”
After hours, when everyone leaves work and goes home, and downtown becomes a silent, deserted, wasteland of concrete and steel, the mechanical demons come out for their devilish bacchanal. Summoned by their satanic leader and the drumbeat of his minion, these monstrosities are awakened from their daylong sleep within office buildings, traffic lights, and street signs to dance and perform for their master. But what happens when everyone hasn’t left…?
“Nightmare”, a.k.a. “Chicken-man and Redneck in Tokyo”, Directed by Takashi Nakamura (Background Art for “Akira”, Creator of “Tree of Palm”) is a cat and mouse chase, as Satan’s right-hand demon pursues a scared drunken salaryman through a modern day, urban Disney-Fantasia-esc “Night on Bald Mountain”.
